HAURAKI GULF FISHING REPORT OCTOBER 2018
Spring workup fishing has kicked into another gear over the past few weeks. The Gannet activity is intensifying and nice schools of Pilchards continue to move into the Gulf.
While the action was north of the Noises over the last few weeks, now the area between Kawau and Tiri is the place to be. Big Snapper and packs of Kingis are in attendance - just make sure you don't stray into the cable zone!
Lots of bait fish are currently holding around the Kawau area, and good numbers of quality Snapper have been slowly migrating south through the Jellicoe Channel. The Daiwa Pirate jigs have been catching both the most fish and consistently connecting to the larger fish, if you don't have any definitely check them out!
Fishing is still great out at Great Barrier, and Kingfish are beginning to gather around the usual reefs such as Anchorite Rock. Make use of the Jack Macs that are schooling around the inner islands, or get on the water early and have a cast around the bait and structure on topwater lures!
See ya out there
