Meet the Crew: Mike Knight

Bio/background?

I started fishing as young fella around the Bream Bay area with my father and mates. Mainly land based fishing wherever I could get to. A few years later using kayaks and inflatable boats to get myself out to more untouchable land-based spots. I’d say Land based fishing is my ultimate type of fishing even today.

Fishing area of speciality/favourite type of fishing?

Love throwing a Stickbait off the stones and targeting our big NZ Kings.

Most memorable catch?

Amongst many, this one was on a family camping holiday up at Spirits Bay. Dennis Vereet was with us this summer and the weather at top on the North was looking glassy and perfect. Last minute decision to take a chopper out to CMVD to slay some kings…..and what a good decision that was!! A totally epic fish that can be seen in the photo above.

What are your Daiwa essentials?

I’d say my Saltiga 14000 and 18000 spin reels. I find they have a lot more torque than most real I’ve ever used! Normally paired with a Daiwa Saltiga C or Spartan spin spin rod.

Favourite Fishing Spot?

Bird Island, Bay of Island.
